Among the 6,718 souls in attendance at Monday night’s “Happy Together” concert at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, there were almost certainly several who thought they caught the tour last year. But such are the vagaries of memory. This multi-act revue built around what pop radio was pumping onto the airwaves in the late 1960s actually hasn’t stopped in the Twin Cities since 2019. And, even then, it was an abbreviated version that split the bill with Tommy James and the Shondells. The Turtles could always be counted on for a night at the Grandstand, bringing along a host of poppy hitmakers of old.But Monday’s show gave a sense that it might be in its twilight. Voices have grown ragged, memories for lyrics and setlists are challenging. But it was nevertheless a fine, fun 100 minutes of music, one act quickly taking the stage after ano...
