ERCOT asks Texans to conserve power Thursday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) issued a Conservation Appeal from 3 – 10 p.m. Thursday due to extreme temperatures, continued near-record demand, and forecasted low wind-power generation. Understanding ERCOT’s emergency alert levels "Due to low wind-power generation and high demand, operating reserves for ERCOT are expected to be low for several hours this afternoon into the evening," the utility said.ERCOT requested Texans conserve electricity use, if safe to do so. This is a voluntary request.The utility said it set a new, all-time, unofficial peak demand record of 85,435 MW on Aug. 10, 2023. An aerospace and defense engineering company has chosen to expand its operations in Colorado Springs and is expected to create 620 new jobs.Boecore plans to build a large sensitive compartmented information facility, or SCIF, an ultra-secure building where officials and government contractors can review highly classified information.The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved up to $7.49 million in performance-based tax credits over eight years. 64-Year-Old Man Badly Hurt after Vehicle Accident on Somerset Hills AvenueLAS VEGAS, NV (August 24, 2023) – Monday night, a vehicle collision on Jones Boulevard left a man critically injured, police said.The incident happened on August 14th just before 5:00 p.m. involving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra and a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, per initial reports.Preliminary investigation showed that the Hyundai was traveling westbound on Somerset Hills Avenue, and stopped at a red light.Furthermore, the Hyundai failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with the Chevy headed northbound on Jones Boulevard.In addition, both vehicles obtained significant damages due to the Chevy hitting the side of the Hyundai.Consequently, responding paramedics transported the 64-year-old driver of the Hyundai to UMC in critical condition.
