DETROIT (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 238,000 Explorers in the U.S. because a rear axle bolt can fail, potentially causing a loss of drive power or allowing the SUVs to roll away while in park. The recall comes after U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation into the problem after getting two complaints that repairs didn't work in two previous recalls this year and in 2022.Affected are certain Explorers from the 2020 through 2022 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in documents posted Friday on its website that the rear axle horizontal mounting bolt can fracture and cause the driveshaft to disconnect, increasing the risk of a crash.Dealers will replace a bushing and the rear axle bolt. They also will inspect the rear axle cover for damage near the bolt hole and replace the cover if damage is found. Owners will be notified by letter starting Nov. 6.Ford said in documents that it knows of 396 reports of rear axle bolt failures, and fe...

From broadcast booth to DJ booth, Adam Amin's talent shines through

CHICAGO — A Chicago Bulls television broadcast with Adam Amin and Stacy King is a soundtrack of slams, a mixtape of movie references, and a playlist of personality.  “This is a performance-based job, it’s theatrical when broadcasting games,” Amin said. “You are trying to tell a story, using your voice as an instrument.”  There’s a reason Amin approaches his job with a musical cadence. He learned to play the violin at age seven, the guitar at 12, and performed in theater and choir at Addison Trail High School.  “I trained to be an opera singer for six months and quickly learned that was not in the cards for me,” Amin said.  But eventually, a turntable would turn the tables for Amin. His brothers Mustapha and Abdullah introduced him to DJing, which became his new musical muse. A teenage Adam turned his new hobby into a part-time job, performing at weddings and even at school.  “At Addison Trail during Homecoming week they said, ‘Why don’t you take four periods off to DJ...

age1 VC Alex Colville says longevity field isn’t just for ‘rich old billionaires trying to live forever”

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 20:43:01 GMT

Alex Colville had just completed his PhD in genetics at Stanford when he met Laura Deming, the wunderkind who dropped out of MIT at 16 and launched The Longevity Fund.At an age when most teenagers already believe they’ll live forever, Deming started a first-of-its-kind venture firm in 2011 to invest in revolutionary technologies that would attempt, at least, to prolong life. At the time, Deming was calling the scientific potential to slow the progression of time on the human body an “almost inconceivable notion,” “an almost terrifying truth.”Now, Colville, 30, and Deming, 29, are teaming up to try to push the technology even closer to reality, launching The Longevity Fund’s next generation: a new venture fund called age1. The firm, which started as an accelerator with backing from Silicon Valley venture capitalist Marc Andreessen in 2018, held an initial closing for $35 million targeting companies attempting to crack the code for extending human lifespans.Colville insists his genera...

Judge rules 14th Amendment lawsuit seeking to bar Donald Trump from Colorado ballot can proceed

Determining whether a Civil War-era Constitutional amendment disqualifies Donald Trump from Colorado’s ballot holds enough public benefit that a lawsuit seeking to bar him as a candidate can continue, a Denver judge ruled this week.A group of Colorado voters, backed by a liberal watchdog group, is arguing the 14th Amendment bars Trump from Colorado’s ballot. The amendment prohibits people from holding office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the country. The lawsuit, filed by Republican and unaffiliated Colorado voters, cites Trump’s alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, siege of the nation’s Capitol, as meeting that bar.Trump’s lawyers argued in September that the lawsuit was an attempt to infringe on his First Amendment right to freedom of speech. They sought to dismiss the claim under a Colorado law aimed at protecting people from frivolous lawsuits for exercising that right.Without ruling on the merits of the case, Denver District Court Judge Sarah B. Walla...
